RINGETTE, a Canadian Game, was invented in Ontario in 1965 by Mr. Sam Jacks, director of Parks and Recreation of North Bay. By 1969, just over four years after its invention, The Ontario Ringette Association was formed. Today, Ringette is not only Canada wide, involving several provincial Ringette Associations, but it also extends into the United States and throughout the world.
Ringette in Guelph was originally run by Recreation and Parks for five seasons. During the latter four years, Mrs. Shirley Reynolds, alone, coached, referreed, kept time and organized the girls.
At the end of the 1975-76 season an executive was elected. By the beginning of 1976-77 season Guelph Ringette was a registered minor sport.
At that time there was approximately 95 girls playing on 7 teams. They used 4 ½ hours of ice time at Victoria Road Arena. How things have changed.
That First executive was made up of the following:
Mr. Jack Hendershott……………….President
Mr. Alex Campbell……………………Vice-President
Mrs. Marlene Gazzola……………….Treasurer
Mrs. Shirley Curtis……………………Secretary
Mrs. Shirley Reynolds……………….Past Director
